Zujhar Singh, PhD (Chemistry)

I completed PhD in Chemistry with Professor Marek B. Majewski at Concordia University which has given me a strong foundation in the field of complex molecular synthesis and solar fuel production. Now, as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Montreal, I continue to push the boundaries of scientific knowledge in the areas of photocatalysis and organic chemistry alongside Professor Shawn Collins. Work Experience

Postdoctoral Fellow (Jan 2024 - Today)

As a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Montreal, I am passionate about developing new photocatalysts for organic synthesis and understanding the mechanisms behind chemical reactions. I work with Professor Shawn Collins, seeking solutions to pressing scientific problems and striving for excellence in every project we undertake. Our collective aim is to make a positive impact on the world through innovative research that advances our understanding of organic chemistry.

Research Assistant (Sept. 2018 - Dec. 2023)

My passion for sustainable energy and materials science has driven my work throughout my academic and professional career. During my PhD studies at the Centre for NanoScience and Research (CeNSR) at Concordia University, I focused on utilizing new sustainable photosensitizers for the production of clean energy. Through my research, I contributed to the development of new techniques for synthesizing these photosensitizers, opening up new avenues for sustainable energy production.

Teaching Assistant (Part-time, Sept. 2018 - Dec. 2023)

As a passionate chemistry teacher with years of experience, I’ve had the opportunity to teach and supervise labs for a variety of undergraduate chemistry courses, including but not limited to CHEM 205, CHEM 206, CHEM 221, CHEM 222, CHEM 241, and CHEM 293. My goal is to make sure my students understand the material, while also providing them with exciting opportunities to collaborate and apply what they have learned in practical contexts.

Instrument Lab Manager (Part-time, Sept. 2020 - April  2021)

At Biofins, I was responsible for training new students to use Infrared spectrometers and circular dichromism instruments. I instilled in them a keen sense of attention to detail and a passion for the subject that helped them excel in their work. Every day at work was an opportunity to deepen my knowledge and grow as a mentor to the next generation of chemists.
